#BEDJ 1 - The Movies

Welcome to the first day of BEDJ.

Looking back on my blog posts they are mostly all written in some form of contemplation and are really soul searchy. So today we are talking about something different - The Movies! 

I love all things film. I love going to the cinema, I love watching DVDS, I love talking about film, I love reading reviews of film, I love popcorn. Man. I fucking love popcorn.

Here's a survey about the films I enjoy. Hopefully not too many spoilers on the way but sorry if there is. Let me know what your favourite films are!

Your favorite movie: This super, super hard to decide. I think Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind because of how immersed I was while watching it. From start to finish, the atmospheric tone in it just made me feel so, so relaxed. It's also the only real love story I fully appreciate  Jim Carey does a stunning performance in this film, one that is definitely worth a watch if you're a fan of his. 

The last movie you watched : Iron Man 3 - Enjoyable for me. Comedic, but also emotive - I loved how the film focuses on the human side of Tony Stark. Also, there is one of the best kid actors in it I have ever seen.
 Your favourite action/adventure movie(s) : Pirates of the Caribbean, The Dark Knight Trilogy, Scarface, The Avengers, The Hobbit, Scott Pilgrim VS The World. (good mixture of action films and adventure films, right?) Lara Croft.
 Your favourite horror movie : The Shining, Carrie, Constantine (does that count as horror?), Psycho. Your favourite drama movie : Atonement, American Beauty, The Green Mile, Fight Club, La Haine. 
Your favourite comedy movie: Anchorman, I Love You, Man, Some Like It Hot, Wayne's World, Submarine, Love Actually, Attack The Block.
 A movie that makes you happy: Little Miss Sunshine, Moonrise Kingdom, Amelie, Love Actually, Moulin Rouge, Big Fish.
A movie that makes you sad: Atonement, Blue Valentine, Forrest Gump, Edward Scissorhands, The Green Mile, Never Let Me Go.
 A movie that you know practically the whole script of: Scott Pilgrim VS The World, A nightmare Before Christmas, The Royal Tenenbaums.
 Your favourite director: Wes Anderson, David Fincher, Darren Aronofsky, Christopher Nolan, Sofia Coppola. 
Your favourite movie from your childhood: A nightmare Before Christmas, Mulan, A bug's Life, Bugsy Malone, The Page Master.
 Your favourite animated movie: A huge fan of pixar movies - out of all of them, probably Toy Story.
 A movie that you used to hate but now love: I don't think I really have one, but I do have movies I thought I would hate but then turned out to love. The movie 2012 I thought was fantastic (no joke, either I really liked it) Catch Me If You Can - fucking awesome film which I was apprehensive about. The sequel to 28 days later, (28 weeks later, I think) Edit: Baz Lurhmann's Romeo and Juliet! I used to fucking hate it but now I definitely don't. 
Your favourite quote from any movie: The entire of Valerie's monologue in V for Vendetta, ''I shall die here. Every last inch of me shall perish. Except one. An inch. It's small and it's fragile and it's the only thing in the world worth having. We must never lose it, or sell it, or give it away. We must never let them take it from us.'' The first movie you saw in theaters: Tarzan? I remember seeing Atlantis quite early on.
The last movie you saw last year in theaters: Skyfall or The Hobbit. Loved them both.
 The best movie you saw during the last year: The Dark Knight Rises in the movie theatre. At home, Trainspotting, which I watched for the first time.
 A movie that disappointed you the most: Prometheus, like, so fricking much.
 Your favorite movie actor(s): Johnny Depp, James McAvoy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ben Whishaw, Andrew Garfeild, Bill Murray, Edward Norton.
 Your favourite movie actress(es): Audrey Tautou, Winona Ryder, Helena Bonham Carter, Emma Stone. 
The most overrated movie: Mean Girls, I think. Or any Adam Sandler movie. The entire Mission Impossible franchise. 
The most underrated movie: World's Greatest Dad, We Need To Talk About Kevin, Nowhere Boy. 
Your favourite character from any movie(s): William Miller from almost Famous, Jenny Mellor from An Education, Rogue from X Men, Ferries Bueller. 
Favorite documentary: I'm not sure I have one. Bowling for Columbine? 
A movie that no one would expect you to love: The Notebook. Considering how much I hate Nicholas Sparks, I really enjoyed The Notebook film. 
A movie that is a guilty pleasure: Bad Science
 Favorite classic movie: Some Like It Hot, A Streetcar named Desire, Stand By Me, The Breakfast Club, Ferries Bueller's Day Off 
Movie with the best soundtrack: Atonement, Inception, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, the Lord Of The Rings triology, 500 days of Summer.
 A movie that changed your opinion about something: The Amazing Spider-man actually made me really like Spiderman? so far I hadn't even liked his character and that movie really changed my mind on him. 
Your least favourite movie: I really don't like The Hangover.
 Favourite book to movie adaptation: Holes! I thought the film was really fantastic. I also enjoyed the adaptation of The Help a lot.

Ideas + Future

My brain is scattered and fragmented but  is also mixed with good intention.

I have all these ideas that I want to do yet no clear way on how to conduct them with conviction.

Idea one: This idea was created in my English Language class. We have to do coursework that is inspired by a 'style model'. A style model is essentially a piece of literature/text (e.g magazine, short story, monologue etc). The whole idea of our coursework is that we imitate a style model, by creating our own text and using all the conventions of the style model we have chosen. My teacher, who's head is so-in-the-sky-she-can-see-a-nebula, (she's crazy) happen to use my sister's work as the SHINING EXAMPLE OF WHAT WE SHOULD DO. It's understandable, because my sister's work was really good. But also semi soul destroying for me, because now (being the child I am) I just want to match it and come up with a really cool idea.

Miss mentioned 'travel writing' as a style model, and I though ooh interesting - way to cure my wanderlust & channel my inner Bill Bryson. I don't want to talk about hotels and where you can take your kids, however. I want to talk about the people in the places. How the life in the city moves, thinks, and feels. Inspired by the heavily popular blog humansofnewyork, a project done by a photographer where he takes a photo of a passerby in the city of New York and has a small conversation with them. I also am heavily inspired by John and Hank Green's youtube series called ''Thoughts From Places'' which, as you guessed, is John and Hank narrating their thoughts from places in video form. I plan to talk about my own quirky tales and also speak to inhabitants of Leeds to find their own personal stories.


Idea two: Again another project tied in with school, or at least I think, the details are slightly scarce at the moment. It's play writing and if judges(?) like my play it could get preformed in the national theatre (which is totally awesome, visited it this summer) but I don't know  even if our school is going ahead with it. Either way, here is my idea. I want to play on the idea of home, and what it means - but do it in abstract silly way for children. I like the idea of playing with senses and using a lot of Boal's techniques. So far I have a main protagonist,  a girl, who is lost and is awoken and doesn't understand who or where she is. Her only quest is to get home. But what is home anyway? She doesn't recall. All she knows is she has to find it. In this world, people don't understand innate human life. They know what things are, they just don't know what to do with them. She meets Tarquin, a clumsy keeper of all things emotional, that spilled all his sadness among the town of Aromaton. Tarquin's job is to travel around each city and hand out the correct qaunities of each emotion that he keeps in jars - Tarquin is heavy footed and ended up dropping his sadness jar, spilling it everywhere, leaving the entire town in melancholia. The girl informs Tarquin that she can't help him because she needs to find home and Tarquin promises her he will take her home if she helps him. They travel there,and the girl informs the town that they don't need jars to feel things, it's natural, and the whole-sadness-jar-spilling is purely placebo. The town are in disbelief until one man starts uncontrollably laughing without the requirement of jars. They meet characters, mimble, nimble, thumble and gumble, quadruplets that cause a copious amount of trouble and they show tarquin and the girl a daisy that has been chained. The Daisy has been chained for being too sunny  in a world of sadness.


Idea Three: Short film. I just need to start making films! I can't take such an active interest in it and have nothing to show as my own. I had an idea about a escapist mime who falls in love with a man.
